This meet was hosted by Brent Mikesell and sanctioned APF. The venue was just awesome - the nicest looking high school I've ever been in. The commons area was spacious and airy, plenty of warmup area and equipment. The dj supplying the music all day was great - loud hard music to get you fired up to lift! The meet was run efficiently and fairly. No one's flight was pushed up to an earlier time, etc.

Some strong women showed up to lift at this meet. Kelly Mahoney, who is also the NASS (North American Strongman Society) chairperson for WA, went home with a 165 lb bench in the 148 lb class. She was very close with 200 lbs, but had a little trouble with it. Laura Greco benched 125 lbs in the 123 master's class. Julie Havelka deadlifted 475 lbs at 181 lb open class. Judy Sverchek benched 300 lbs and deadlifted 500 lbs at 148. What explosive power!

Some notable lifts for the men: Marc Caplan took home an 800 lb squat at 198 and 46 years old. Marc has only been competing the past 2 years, since a 22 year layoff from lifting at all. Marc is a great guy with a great attitude, who is always ready to help others be their best. Matt Ludwig took home the only 900+ lb squat that day with 905 at 308 Open. Jason Lake had great form on all of his lifts, squatting 615, benching 425 and deadlifting 555 in the 242 Open class. Wesley Kampen, publisher of Monster Muscle Magazine, benched 410 and deadlifted 520 in the 181 Open class. Brady Cyphert usually goes in the 242 lb class, but went in the 275's this time and almost took home his first 900 lb squat. It wasn't quite there, but 860 was. Brady is still in the JR. division, too. Mike Conner came back from a bad pec tear 3 years ago to bench 475 (a new state record) in the 242 (40-44) class, and almost getting 490. He also broke the 40-44 squat record in his wt class with a lift of 700 lbs. Blaine Stussey wowed the crowd with a 640 benchpress in the 242 Open class, and was close with 660 lbs. Blaine usually does all three lifts and will be back for the three lifts again before long.

Thanks again to Brent for a great meet. It was very professionally run and a meet 'for the lifter'. This meet is growing every year, and it should be. I definitely recommend this meet to NW based lifters.
